Berwyn residents have observed an increase in the annual frequency of basement flooding over the last five years, involving not only flood water but sewage flowing into their homes which is both a health risk and financial cost to residents and the community of Berwyn. We have been helping out the local residents with flood-related problems for a while now. We have installed our Double Guard flood control systems as protection against sewer water backup for several residents, and we hope we will be doing more projects in the future.

About Berwyn, Illinois

The city of Berwyn – with a population of around 50 thousand – is a Chicago suburb located in western Cook County. At one time it was a part of Cicero. Ogden Ave in Berwyn is part of the historic Route 66. In July 2010 it was – just like the surrounding Cicero, Westchester, Broadview, and Forest Park – badly hit by the flood that damaged a lot of homes and property.Berwyn was formed in 1908 after breaking off from Cicero Township. The area that makes up Berwyn today was originally marshy and cold. This was once the location of the Ancient Lake Chicago which grew smaller and is known today as Lake Michigan. At one time Berwyn was considered one the the fastest growing suburbs in Chicago. The city is known for having some of the most significant collection of well-built two story brick bungalows. Berwyn has a very diverse community with many larger homes on it’s south and most of the smaller bungalow type homes are located in the North.

Berwyn does offer residents a shared cost program for flood mitigation! The goal of this program is to provide financial assistance to homeowners who install systems to protect their homes from sewer backup during a heavy rain event. Eligible Berwyn homeowners may quality for a 50% cost sharing, up to a maximum of $3,500 for installing an overhead sewer system, a backflow prevention valve with a bypass pump,or a backflow prevention valve only. Parks’ will work hard at protecting your basement from flooding whether you have a big or small home with our patented Double Guard Flood Control valve.
