Valves Assembly:
|
| Parks Double-Guard Flood Control System consists of two non-corroding red brass valves and seats encased
in a cast iron housing. Red brass is an inert material estimated to last over 200 years. The two red brass
valves stay in an upright, almost 'closed' position most of the time, and are opened only when waste water from the
house flows through them. They completely seal closed automatically when the sewage from the overloaded city
or village sewer main flows back toward the house. The valves work mechanically and automatically, they are
not triggered by any electrical sensors and they do not need anyone to do something (like flip a switch) to
tell them to close. When they close, they form a tight, 'brass-against-brass' seal, which stops sewage backing
up from the overloaded city or village sewer main. The valves can be accessed by removing eight stainless
steel bolts which then release two cast iron cover plates which are sealed with neoprene gaskets and
attached to the main valve. |

A 6" cast iron overflow is also provided. It guides the waste water from the house into the pump basin
when it rains and the system is in operation in the closed position. Also, during non-flooding conditions the
overflow allows access to the house sewer line for rodding purposes.
The entire cast iron housing and valves assembly are inserted into the portion of the house sewer line,
and then joined with the remainder of the existing sewer by using watertight neoprene mission couplings
and stainless steel straps
